Duodenal Tuberculosis

چکیده
Tuberculosis is a world wide communicable disease caused by tubercle bacilli discovered by Robert Kock in 18821,2,3. In 1993 WHO declared TB as a global emergency due to its world wide resurgence2,4. It can involve any organ of the body1,2. Abdomen is the fourth commonest site of involvement in the extra pulmonary tuberculosis after the lymph-nodes, skeletal and Genito urinary variants1. In the gastro intestinal tract tuberculosis can affect any part from the mouth to the anus but ileocaecal area is a favourite location. Duodenal involvement is uncommon and accounts for only 2.5% of tuberculous enteritis1,3,5,6. Major pathogens are Mycobacterium Tuberculosis and bovis and the usual route of entry is by direct penetration of the intestinal mucosa by swallowed organisms7.

Duodenal Tuberculosis
Two cases of distal duodenal strictures are reported. One case had histopathologically confirmed tuberculosis and one suspected tuberculosis which responded dramatically to antituberculous therapy. Tuberculosis should be considered as a cause of distal duodenal obstruction in Pakistan (JPMA 35:53, 1985).
متن کاملDuodenal ulcers preceding cervical tuberculous lymphadenitis.
Lymphadenitis is the most common presentation of extra pulmonary tuberculosis, whereas gastrointestinal localization, particularly duodenal involvement, is rare. We report a case of extra pulmonary tuberculosis with association between cervical lymphadenitis and duodenitis with multiple ulcers, not responsive to treatment with protonic pump inhibitors, in a human immunodeficiency virus-seronega...
متن کاملA Case Report of Primary Duodenal Tuberculosis Mimicking a Malignant Tumor
Tuberculosis remains a serious infectious disease with primary features of pulmonary manifestation in Korea. However, duodenal tuberculosis is rare in gastrointestinal cases of extrapulmonary tuberculosis. Here, we report a case of primary duodenal tuberculosis mistaken as a malignant tumor and diagnosed with QuantiFERON-TB GOLD (Cellestis Ltd.) in an immunocompetent male patient.
متن کاملTuberculous Duodenal Stenosis: Report of Two Cases
Duodenal tuberculosis is a rare clinical entity. The authors report and emphasize the lack of special clinical, radiological and endoscopic signs of duodenal tuberculosis. The diagnosis is affirmed, at laparotomy, out of the findings of peritoneal granulations or histology of lymphatic nodes. We report our experience of two cases of duodenal tuberculosis presenting with proximal intestinal obst...
متن کاملNododuodenal Fistula Caused by Tuberculosis
A 39-year-old woman presented to our hospital with upper abdominal pain. She had been taking anti-tuberculosis medications for 3 months because of pulmonary tuberculosis. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy showed a creamy discharge from an opening in the duodenal bulb (Fig. 1), and abdominal computed tomography with coronal reformatting showed that the lymph nodes had eroded the adjacent duodenum, resu...
متن کاملTubercular Papillitis of Vater
A middle-aged man with no symptom or history visited our hospital due to duodenal abnormality and fecal occult blood detected by health screening. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy showed marked enlargement of the papilla of Vater surrounded by nodules, and biopsy disclosed non-caseating granuloma. Colonoscopy yielded findings suggestive of intestinal tuberculosis such as annular ulcers. Examina...
